"How can a Bring Your Own Bag campaign be started in other towns?" from CoolCalifornia.org

Ideas from Shorewood, Wisconsin:

  • Ask for support from your local government, environmental organizations, and/or business groups.

  • Create posters to remind shoppers to bring their own bags. Gather volunteers to post them in store windows.
(See the examples on our Shorewood page.)

  • Create bookmarks with contact information to hand out at events and leave at participating locations.

  • Create "I brought my bag" stickers. Recruit volunteers to give them to shoppers who bring their own bags on a special Bring Your Bag Day.

  • Ask stores to donate reusable bags and gift cards. Use them as gifts or prizes for shoppers on Bring Your Bag Day.

  • Ask people to sign a pledge to use reusable bags whenever possible and to reuse or recycle plastic bags.
